Started in 1980 by Bob Hylton, nearly 50 year ago..
Bob, having worked for a leading timber preservation company (Phoenix Preservation) during the 1970s decided to venture out on his own..
Starting up as a sole trader in Mistley with 1 van. The company soon built up a strong reputation working alongside local building companies including Rose Builders and Lexden Restorations. Providing them with expertise and carrying out damp proofing and timber treatments for projects throughout Essex and Suffolk. His wife Jenny also played a key role in the day to day running of the business.
Over the years, Bob with his wit and humour and laid back and can do attitude soon became the go to person in our area for damp and timber issues in your home and became known as ‘Bob the Damp Man’.
In 2003 Paul Hylton (Bob’s son) joined the family business after leaving college. Starting as a technician on the tools.. first learning to use the broom and making cups of tea. He quickly progressed and qualified as a PCA technician specialising in carrying out timber treatments and damp proofing works. Over the years, having worked on private and domestic properties and large prestigious jobs such as St Peters & St Pauls Church in St Osyth and the conversion of The Former Horse Guards buildings at Colchester Barracks to name a few.
Paul further progressed and became a PCA C.S.R.T qualified surveyor in 2015 and worked alongside Bob for a number of years before his retirement. Further continued professional development included obtaining the PCA C.S.S.W structural waterproofing qualification in 2019.
As of today, Bob and Jenny have retired and Paul and his wife Sarah have taken over the reins. Our small and dedicated friendly office team comprises of the two Sarahs, and surveyors Paul and Craig.

Works are carried out by our in house team of PCA qualified professional tradesmen many of whom have been with us for decades. Day in day out, completing the works with care and professionalism ensuring that our high standards are met and we are pleased to hear from our many satisfied clients over the years.
